For almost 5 years now, I have had a blog at what has become weblogs.asp.net.
Back in 2003, weblogs.asp.net started as a hosted site running software written by Scott Watermasysk that was subsequently released as an open source product named .TEXT. It was a place for like-minded people to get a weblog - one that also contributed to an aggregated feed that grew to represent the pulse of what was happening in .NET.
Increasing popularity required increasing resources, so Microsoft agreed to "take over" the site, changing its name to weblogs.asp.net. Doing so, Microsoft obtained an instant blog platform for its own employees. At the time, the URL change didn't matter, even though members wrote about .NET in it's entirety - not just ASP.NET.
The open source software that was the basis for the original site was soon consumed by Community Server, but also continues in open source project Subtext.
It's now time for me to move on.
Moving On
So, I'm moving in here at http://alintex.com/blog.
Here, I'm going to write primarily about aspects of large-team based project software development and management.
For the last 20 years or so, I have been involved in a huge number of projects in Europe, the USA and Australasia. Those projects often feature complex user and legislative requirements which cross international borders, together with strict corporate governance standards and outsourced development.
Yet the vast majority have been problematic. In fact, if failure includes projects that are not delivered on-time, on-budget and on-expectation, then the majority have failed. What lessons can be learnt? Why aren't they ever learnt?
